The Valdosta Touchdown Club appreciates Coach Mike O'Brien's loyalty and service during his tenure as a Wildcat coach. Along those lines, the VTC would like to remind everyone that our only objective is to support the Valdosta High School football program.

That support is two-fold. First and foremost is the encouragement to the team and coaches. The VTC also provides financial support in the way of food, equipment and anything else the coaches deem necessary for the betterment of the program. Those funds are raised through the sales of memberships, parking permits, media guide, and etc.

While the school board regularly consults individuals, it neither solicits nor receives input from the VTC as a whole regarding employment decisions of teachers/coaches.

Such personnel decisions are the sole responsibility of the superintendent and the school board. The VTC does not have to be consulted or informed by the school board regarding business matters.

The VTC did not have a meeting to discuss the renewal of Coach O'Brien's contract, nor did it consult with the school board prior to their decision. However, it has always been the policy of the VTC to accept and support the decisions of the school board.
