Good spring for ’Cats

VALDOSTA — Overall, Valdosta High’s spring season was a productive one.
The Wildcats entered spring practice faced with a lot of holes to fill, after graduating 16 starters off of last year’s team. Ten practices later, the coaches feel they are a better football team.
“This is one of the best springs I’ve been a part of,” Valdosta head coach Rick Tomberlin said. “We got a lot done.”

Spring ends for Wildcats

VALDOSTA — Valdosta High wrapped up its spring football season Friday night with the Spring Game in front of several hundred fans at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.
The first-team offense battled the first team defense, and both sides had their moments Friday. Valdosta’s offense scored on two of its first three possessions, but after that, the defense dominated, and did not allow another score.

Valdosta assistant John Thompson heading to Berkmar

VALDOSTA — John Thompson is leaving Valdosta High for the chance to be a head coach.
Thompson, Valdosta High’s special teams coach, has been named the new head coach at Berkmar High in Lilburn. It will be the first head coaching job for the 36-year old Thompson.
“I’m real excited about this opportunity, as excited as I was to come here to Valdosta in 2006,” Thompson said.

11 Valdosta players sign college scholarships

VALDOSTA — It took three tables to fit all of the Valdosta High football players signing scholarships Wednesday morning. The Wildcats had one of their most productive Signing Days ever, as 11 players signed letters of intent Wednesday at the school.
“I’m just thrilled,” Valdosta head coach Rick Tomberlin said. “First, I’m glad that all of these guys are going to have an opportunity to continue their education. Football’s important, but the idea that they’re going to have an opportunity to get an education, then have an opportunity to play football, is a big deal.”

2008 Signing Day

The first day high school football players can sign football scholarships with their chosen college or university is Wednesday February 6th. We are thrilled to have several young men who will sign on National Signing Day. The Valdosta Wildcats would like to invite you to be a part of this special occasion and share the experience with our players in whom you have all had a significant positive influence.
The signing ceremony will be held at Valdosta High School in the lobby of our Performing Arts Center beginning at 9:00 am. Please feel free to drop by anytime between 9:00 and 11:00, bring you camera if you choose. Wildcats’ season ends with 21-18 loss to M.L. King

LITHONIA — The Valdosta Wildcats’ turnaround season came to an end Friday night, as they fell to the No. 2 Martin Luther King Jr. High Lions, 21-18.
The 10th-ranked Wildcats end their season 9-3. MLK remains the state’s only undefeated team, at 12-0.
