The Valdosta Wildcats
have finished in USA Today's Super 25 national football rankings a total of seven times during
the poll's 20-year history.
The Cats have finished in first place twice (1984 and 1986) while placing in second another two times (1982 and 1992).
Individual honors include former head coach Nick Hyder being named the National Coach of the Year in 1984 and the selection of former linebacker Dexter Daniels as the Defensive Player of the Year in 1991. Hyder led the Wildcats to seven Georgia state titles and three mythical national championships.
Daniels lettered 4 years with the Florida Gators while earning All-SEC honors.
